IPS - Mayans Demand Voice in "Doomsday Tourism" Boom
IPS reports: "The indigenous people of southeast Mexico are demanding to be included in the official programmes planned for 2012 [...] The surge of global interest in Mayan civilisation in 2012 is fuelled by interpretations that the Maya calendar predicted great catastrophes for Dec. 21, 2012, bringing an end to civilisation as we know it. But leaders and representatives of these indigenous people deny this prophecy."

Comment: So the Mexican government is promoting a series of cultural events designed to capitalize on world interest in the Mayans and indigenous groups are being left out. I think they should take their revenge by sending representatives to the media to explain what happens when a calendar ends...another one begins.
