Turkey, U.S. agree on long-term plan to capture, govern Raqqa, Syria - UPI.com
UPI reports: "Turkish and U.S. military leaders agreed on a long-term plan to seize
and hold the Islamic State stronghold of Raqqa, Syria, the U.S. Defense
Department announced.
The statement Sunday quoted U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Joe
Dunford, who after meeting in Ankara with his Turkish counterpart, Gen.
Hulusi Akar, said, 'The [U.S.-led] coalition and Turkey will work
together on the long-term plan for seizing, holding and governing
Raqqa.' "
Comment: The battle for Mosul is ongoing and plans are now underway to conquer the Islamic State capital of Raqqa. It appears that the war against IS has entered a decisive phase.
