CDC: 'Nightmare bacteria' showing up in U.S. - UPI.com
UPI reports: "The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Tuesday has issued a
warning that a "nightmare bacteria" resistant to most antibiotics is
showing up in parts of the United States. [...] More than 23,000
Americans die each year from infections caused by germs resistant to
antibiotics, the agency says. [...] Drug resistant infections will kill
an additional 10 million people a year worldwide by 2050 unless action
is taken, according to a 2014 study by the Review on Antimicrobial
Resistance, a nongovernment advocacy group. That's more than currently
die from cancer."
Comment: And yet for all of that alarmism, most hospitals already have the equipment and procedures in place to prevent the transmission of such bugs but struggle to do basic prevention, like washing hands and sanitizing equipment.
