My Way News - Scientists worry about arms race in artificial intelligence
My Way News reports: "Scientists and tech experts — including professor Stephen Hawking and
Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak — warned Tuesday of a global arms race
with weapons using artificial intelligence. [...] The signatories included leading figures globally in academia and business studying artificial intelligence — the idea that computer systems could replicate tasks normally requiring human intelligence, such as language translation or visual perception. They were joined by philosophers, historians, sociologists and geneticists."
Comment: The first-mover advantage will likely override any sensible prohibitions they come up with. Still, they are to be commended for trying. After all, international prohibitions have worked well in limiting the use of chemical, biological and nuclear weapons...so far.
