My Way News - Like predecessors, Obama declines embassy move
My Way News reports: "Following the practice of his predecessors, President Barack Obama has invoked U.S. national security interests to notify Congress he will not move the U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. The notification is necessary under a 1995 law that authorized the embassy's relocation but left the decision to presidents [...] While Clinton and Bush had indicated a commitment to moving the embassy at some point, Obama's notification does not contain that language."
Comment: That's really a shame, I wonder why Obama would depart from precedent in this way? Could he, in fact, have a different view of the U.S. alliance with Israel than his predecessors? Clinton and Bush understood that they had the political leeway to say that it wasn't time to move the embassy to Jerusalem, but that the law required it at some point. Obama does not seem to share that understanding. I'm sure he must have a good reason for ignoring the will of the elected representatives of the American people, right?
