Putin statement on Kuril Islands, U.S. military rattles Japan - UPI.com
UPI reports: "A statement from Russian President Vladimir Putin about U.S. military
buildup in the disputed Kuril Islands is raising concerns in Japan,
despite plans in Tokyo to increase economic cooperation in the
territories. [...] Russia and Japan never signed a peace treaty after
the four islets in the Kuril archipelago fell under Soviet control at
the end of World War II."
Comment: That's a clever strategy on Putin's part to engender doubt and insecurity in Japan.
