Earth's temperature 8th-warmest on record so far in 2009 - USATODAY.com

USA Today reports: "The Earth's temperature from January-March 2009 was the 8th-warmest on record, according to data released Thursday from the National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, N.C. The global temperature of 55.04 degrees for the year's first three months was almost a full degree above the 20th-century average of 54.1 degrees."

Comment: And to the global warming skeptics out there, I will add my usual caveat that I'm not taking a side, just watching the trends and keeping focused on prophecy, so that said, here is the explanation: Bible prophecy says there will be a time when people look at the things happening in the world and they are filled with fear and trepidation for the future, and global warming seems to be a good expression of that; Jesus also said something very specific about nations being alarmed by the roaring of the seas, which is in line with the predicted rise in sea levels if global warming trends continue.

Ok this is not to challenge but something to ponder.
The global warming data is only about 100-300 years old depending on the site. Yes we can even go back a few thousand years in the ice cap, but never forget that this is not conclusive to say global warming is in effect.

Why? Because of the belief that is held that the earth is 4.2 billion years old. The above data makes no mark on a scale that large. See what I mean?

This is a time when man is the hero or villain on earth- therefore we see a problem and defend it. Of course the villain is the American, and the solution is to make America cave while third world up in coming countries do not(china-pakistan)

Man is not in control of the climate changes globally-only God is...we are allowing a frenzied crowd to push their religion onto us...buy green, save the planet, etc etc...this is not Gods way, nor should a Christian condone it.

Forgive me for commenting. I find this site very helpful and do not wish to offend, just to point out the scale that should be used on this issue.

Thank you for your comment. I think I understand what you are saying and I'm very happy that the site has comments.

I think a lot of scientists would agree with your general point, that our climate data is limited and that the expanse of geologic time suggests that human activity has only a marginal impact on global climate. This is especially true for secular scientists who accept standard models for the age of the Earth.

I think the scientific community is far from having the kind of consensus on this issue that the media would have you believe is the case. The broadest general statement that everyone can agree on is that the climate is changing and that the Earth is getting warmer. The cause of this, though, is hotly disputed.

Some think global warming is part of a natural cycle, that would happen regardless of what humans are doing. Some think it's part of natural cycle and human activity is accelerating it. Others think human activity is solely to blame for warming. And a very small minority don't even agree that there is warming going on.

I've also noted the argument posted on many blogs and pseudoscience websites that the sun (solar output, solar flares) is responsible for global warming. It's an interesting idea, but the data from solar monitoring satellites don't support that argument. We are in a period of reduced solar activity right now called Solar Minimum so severe that it's at record low levels of sunspot activity. I posted a link to a BBC News video yesterday on the blog if you would like more info on recent solar activity.

Thanks for your comment, I really appreciate it!
