Saudi Columnist: 'Where Do We Start With Reform?'
From MEMRI, and specifically from the Saudi daily Al-Jazirah, which is another transliteration of the Arabic for "The Peninsula." (The popular one is Al-Jazeera, the name of a television station operating from Qatar.) Any sensible man, whose country had a similar set of problems, would say the same--and notice how great a national debt Saudi Arabia has! "Our population is growing faster than the economy" is another way of saying, "At this rate we'll all starve to death if we don't watch out!"

I suppose, then, that all that oil hasn't helped them. Rashed Al-Fowzan, who wrote the column, even cites "total dependence on oil" first in his list of problems that the government needs to "address."

What would happen if the Western world implemented an "energy independence solution" that allowed it to tell the Arabs what to do with their oil? One can only imagine...!
