The Israeli Navy is planning to ferry residents out of Gush Katif by boat if the Kisufim road crossing is blocked. The Navy has rented passenger craft from an unnamed eastern European country.

Navy personnel and reservists are training on the craft. The last time the IDF used passenger boats was during the Peace for Galilee campaign in the early 1980s when the Bat Sheva boat ferried paratroopers to Lebanon.

A resident of Gush Katif said that when Arab violence broke out in the late 1980s, the IDF told the Jewish communities that the Navy would ferry them by sea back and forth to other Israeli communities if necessary."
