The PA is airing on TV an anti-American movie, produced in 1992 in the U.S. The film exploits 'a subtler but very potent entertainment medium,' according to Palestinian Media Watch (PMW).

The Palestinian Authority (PA) is telecasting the movie, 'Nick and Eddy in Trouble,' with Arabic subtitles to 'further [its] anti-America agenda,' said Itamar Marcus, director of PMW. He said that bringing 'Western culture' gives more legitimacy to the Moslem world's growing anti-American conspiracy propaganda.

The movie features an investigative reporter who discovers that the United States government is funding terrorism in a fictional South American country as part of its imperialistic desires to gain control of the country.

During the movie, the reporter, Eddy, states, 'I understand that the U.S. is arming these opposing parties in order to undermine the government and generally screw up the progress here. It's weird how we grew up with this image of America being the good guy, when, if you research a little, you find out that our country has done some pretty crappy things to other countries to control them. It's a bummer.'

'The PA is actively and intentionally promoting the negative stereotype of America as international bully,' according to PMW. 'Going beyond its routine anti-American hatred in religious sermons and newspaper editorials, the PA is reinforcing the hatred of America that is already so rampant in the PA today.

'This kind of popular entertainment in a midday time slot during the summer vacation reaches a wide audience, including and especially children. By using this movie and other media to present the US as the source of world terror, the PA is promoting a central argument in Arab anti-Western ideology."
