My Way News - Palestinian's Islamic Jihad at a Glance
AP provides this background on the Islamic Jihad Palestinian group:
- SIZE: About 15,000 armed militants in the Gaza Strip.

- WEAPONS: Assault rifles, heavy machine guns, explosives, land mines, homemade rockets, some Katyusha rockets.

- IDEOLOGY: Strict Islam, rejection of existence of Israel, refusal to compromise with Jewish state.

- TACTICS: Armed attacks against Israeli targets inside Israel, including suicide bombings and almost daily rocket barrages from Gaza. Unlike the Islamic militant group Hamas, which controls Gaza, Islamic Jihad has no social wing and only limited political activity.

- ORGANIZATION: Gaza leadership takes instructions from exiled leaders based in Syria. Funding from Iran and Syria.

- HISTORY: Founded in 1979 by Fathi Shikaki as an offshoot of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood. Shikaki was killed in 1995 in Malta in attack widely attributed to Israel. Current Damascus-based leader is Ramadan Shalah.
One thing they omit, the GOAL of the group: destruction of the state of Israel.
