U.S. officer: If Israel strikes Iran, U.S. will likely join - Haaretz - Israel News
Haaretz reports: "The United States would find it difficult not to join an Israeli air strike in the event that Jerusalem decides to strike Iran's nuclear facilities, a former top-ranking U.S. Air Force officer told participants at a conference this weekend organized by a Washington think tank."

I am wondering if the United States will back Israel to that extent. I sincerely hope so as we are to be Israel's friend. However, our present administration is not very supportive of Israel, at least at this time. I pray that will change and we will stay Israel's friend.

Cheri, thanks for your comment. I'm been following these events closely and I've not seen any indication that the U.S. is turning against Israel. Pundits say that, but I can't find any evidence of it. The U.S. is still committed to the defense of Israel and the two countries are holding a major missile defense exercise this week to test out new defenses to protect Israel.

The style of the new administration is different, but they are about the same and the old Bush Administration in terms of pressuring Israel to come to terms with the Palestinians. Both bought into the idea that achieving Mideast peace is the key to solving all the problems in the Middle East. I think that assumption is dangerous and is very much against Israel. I think that even if there was a peace treaty tomorrow the Palestinians who hate Israel would still hate Israel, it would change nothing.

This is the real test of turning against Israel - forcing Israel to make peace with enemies who don't want peace will be a betrayal, but that is the path that the U.S. and the other major powers are on. But, let's hope that is far in the future.
